Alan L. PlummerMD, Vice President
Alan L. Plummer, MD, is Vice President of the Physicians Foundation and chair of the Grants committee. He is a Professor of Medicine at Emory University, where he serves as medical director of the Respiratory Care department and associate medical director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory at Emory University Hospital. He is also the medical director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory at The Emory Clinic. Dr. Plummer has over 40 years of experience as a physician and medical educator, with over 80 published manuscripts, manuals and other publications, uniquely positioning him as an expert in the subject areas of internal and pulmonary medicine, medical consolidation trends, medical education and hospital policy.
In addition, Dr. Plummer has held a number of leadership positions, including past president of the Georgia Thoracic Society, the Medical Association of Georgia and the National Association for Medical Direction of Respiratory Care, and is a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Respiratory Working Group on ICD 11. He has been on the list of Best Doctors in America since 1999, and has received presidential citations from the American Thoracic Society and the Medical Association of Atlanta.
Dr. Plummer earned his medical degree from Northwestern University and performed his undergraduate work at the University of Nebraska. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine, as well as a Fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care, at the Mayo Clinic.
