The California Medical Association Foundation aims to improve patient care by reducing waiting times for appointments and reducing distractions from clinical activity, thereby freeing physicians to spend more time with their patients. Funding from The Physicians Foundation will allow the California Medical Association Foundation to apply the resources of organizational design, the insights from practicing physicians and their staff and a robust team of subject matter experts to bring together their knowledge, skills and insights to identify barriers to increasing the quality of the office visit and removing the administrative noise that ties up physicians' time. The project will undertake to redesign participating practices for practice efficiency, test and improve that redesign during the pilot testing phase and measure changes in factors such as patient satisfaction, physician and staff satisfaction with the practice and time spent in patient care activity. This work will be converted into toolkits, templates, self-instructional guides, workshops and train the trainer sessions to make the learnings widely available.
